The Sawyer Killer Bug

The Sawyer Killer Bug was suggested by Chris over at TenkaraBum.com  This fly was created by Frank Sawyer many many years ago and from what I have been reading about this bug, everyone who fishes by it swears by it.  Frank is better known for his pheasant tail nymph and his book on these flies is a classic but its this fly that gets me the most excited.  I cant wait to fish this little guy.  It will be the first fly on my line.

Good one Joel.

I have never fished this fly, but I do fish one very similar, and its a fish catcher.

I love the ugly critter bugs over the fancy dries. If I lay a dry perfectly on the water I might get one or two flashes on a clear weather day. Throw the ugly bugs in any weather and get hits all day long. Once again I am deeply impressed by your talent.

Joel, nice painting of a solid fly. And yeah, they work....similar to scuds, this pattern seems to get more hits (for me) on the rise, with quick flicks of the rod tip.

Love the interplay of the splatter and the shadow. Great work!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I can't wait to fish this little guy. He might not be the best looking bug in the box but Then again fish don't choose what they eat based on looks now do they.
