Iron Blue Wingless

A wet fly to imitate a variety of aquatic inhabitants. Also I took a little afternoon trip to the northern Greenville Co trout waters on tuesday. It had been the first chance I've had for a while to get away but the trout gods did not smile on me - I believe they are angry at me lack of devotion. A friend, his kid, and I explored new waters and found some good holes. unfortunatly the only member of our party to hook fish was the young one - three nice rainbows and a small brown. It was his first time fishing for trout and it was enjoyable to see him hook up despite the trash talking his father and I had to endure the whole ride home. This is a picture of our last stop. It was under a bridge I've driven over many times but never stopped to explore. When we roled up there was one other fisherman there that said a few minutes ago, on the far bank, a guy pulled up and popped off a few shots his way. I was wondering one, if it was true and two, if it was true WHY was he still fishing - he said he had caught 3 or 4 nice rainbows. A few minutes after that a few squad cars roled up and cased the area. It didn't get in the way of fishing though and it was in this spot our young friend caught three nice fish. So a word of warning when fishing hidden holes in the south - be aware that some holes are guarded by armed locals willing to use force.

Brookie & The Zebra Midge

Here is a nice brookie with the fly that took him. I've always liked the idea of capturing a fish in watercolor then mounting the fly neatly with the painting. With this I'v added the fly as a painting as well since it keeps with my theme of this blog. I have curently have a pencil wash drawing of a brown I took some years ago hanging in my dining room with an inset of the Elk Hair Caddis that took him mounted just under him. I let that beautifull fish go but now every time I look at the picture it reminds me of that good day.

A Smelt

A nice little minnow imitation.  (the quarter is there to give you an idea on the size of 90% of my daily posts.  With my work schedule lately, small quick illustrations is all I can manage for a daily post.)

Ink Bass Popper

Because there is more than just trout out there, here is a quick bass bug. Take heart trout enthusiasts, I have read accounts from avid fly fishermen that said although the Popper is classified as a bass bug it is also quite deadly on monster browns. ( I have no personal account to give you to back this up.)  I was wondering if any others out there have tried a Popper on trout waters?  I do know bream love them but they often go after a naked hook.  (As they say down south...They ain't so smart...)

Egg Sucker w/ Eyes

I do not fish a lot of these patterns but on the right water they are deadly.

The Serendipity

I did paint a version of this fly a little while ago but wasn't quite satisfied so here it is again. Also I'd like to thank Colorado Angler for his kind words yesterday.  If one gets a chance go and visit his blog which is posted just to the right along with Biggerrfish's blog.  Both are good western trout bums.

A Very Small Rainbow & Fly

Don't ask what the fly is because I don't know. It's just Small. Total painting is less than 1.5 inches long.  The low pic quality of this small painting is due to the limited ability of my phone from which 80% of my daily posts are made.

Blue Dunn

Finally had a bit of time to sit down and paint a good fly. On another subject, it is snowing AGAIN in SOUTH CAROLINA in March!!!!  Will this winter ever end?  Seriously.  Global what?  It has got to be the coldest and whitest winter I've seen since moving too the southeast.
